The indigenous community adventure focuses on the culture of the native inhabitants of the Amazon rainforest. You will get to see two different indigenous communities. We will go fishing and hunting with them, you will learn about their lifestyle and habits, and you will see how they live every day in harmony with the Amazon jungle that surrounds them.
Besides visiting two indigenous communities, we will also explore the Amazon jungle for cool animals and plants that have a long history of traditional use by the natives of the Amazon. Most of the animals in the Amazon come out at nighttime to search for food. So we will do some night excursions to see how the animals of the forest feed. There are so many cool things to discover in the Amazon jungle, and with 9 days we have plenty of time to explore it all.

The indigenous community tour always starts and ends in Manaus. We pick you up at your hotel on the morning of your first tour day. From there all transportation is included. After the tour, we bring you back to your hotel. If you want to be dropped off at another location, like for example the airport, we can do that as well.

Your adventure begins at 6:00 a.m. when your guides pick you up from the hotel and take you to the airport. The flight from Manaus to Tefé leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m., and you will be able to spend the hour-long flight enjoying the lush, scenic views of the jungle.
We will arrive in Tefé around 9:00 a.m., and you will have three hours to check in, unpack and refresh yourself for the rest of the day’s activities. At noon, we will take you on a grand tour of the market. We’ll eat lunch there, and then we will head to the dock for an exciting water excursion.
We will travel up the Amazon river a short way to the community of Missão. Here you will have the chance to learn more about the rich history of the Amazon as well as the indigenous people and their culture.
Later that afternoon, we’ll make the short journey back to Tefé for an evening of casual birdwatching and dinner before returning to the hotel for a full night of rest.
Accommodation – Overnight in Tefé
Day two will have another early start, as you and your guides will take the speedboat by 6:00 a.m. to begin the final leg of the journey to Maraã.
Your group will reach Maraã by noon, and you will be able to have lunch once you disembark from the boat. You and your guides will be able to take time to see the sights of Maraã, and you will be able to ask questions and begin learning more about the lives of the indigenous people.
Around 1:00 p.m., it will be time to venture into the jungle via boat. Depending on the size of your party, we will take a large, covered speed boat as well as a few smaller canoes for our trip upriver to Lago Parica. The trip typically takes about five hours, but we will stop along the way to catch fish to eat for lunch.
After lunch, we will travel for the remainder of the afternoon until we reach the area known to the native people as Aldeio Patawa, which is in the Lake Parica region.
Once we arrive at our destination, we will disembark, and your guides will take you around the area to meet the indigenous Patawa tribe that calls the Lake Parica region home. You will be able to explore the village briefly and speak with the families that live there with the translation help of your guides. Your party will stay overnight in the village and eat dinner with the indigenous people.

On the third day, your party will wake up at 7:00 a.m. and eat breakfast with the local villagers. Once breakfast is finished, it will be time for you and your guides to start getting to know the indigenous people. You will be able to meet all of the families, and your guides will help you ask questions and converse with the native people about their everyday lives.
This day will be a bit more relaxed so that you have time to explore the village and learn as much as possible about its inhabitants.
We will again turn to the river to catch fish for both lunch and dinner. The Amazon offers a broad variety of fish that all have their unique flavor and texture, so this will allow you to find your very own favorite Amazon freshwater fish. You will get to learn how to fish with a net in the same way that the locals do, and you will also have the opportunity to see just how much of the native cuisine is centered around the bounty of the Amazon river.
At night, you will have the chance to eat around the campfire with your guides and some of the villagers, and you will get to hear interesting stories about how different life in the Amazon river basin can be from the busy, technology-focused world you’re used to.
After dinner, we will go on a nighttime excursion to observe the black caiman and learn about its habits, and then we will return to the village to spend the night.

The fourth day starts with breakfast with the native people at 7:30 a.m., and after breakfast, we will prepare to go to Lake Parica and visit a local named José who lives even deeper in the Amazon jungle. José and his wife will open their home to us, which means that we will get to eat lunch with them, tour their plantation and hear their stories about life in the jungle.
After this, we will paddle in small canoes deep into the heart of the Amazon to see the wildlife and fish for piranhas. The excursion will take us about five hours away from José’s home, and we will spend the night in the jungle.
You will learn how to safely set up a secure camping location, and your guides will also teach you about spearfishing and identifying local plants and animals.

On day five, we will have breakfast around 8:00 a.m. and then prepare for our first jungle hike. On this hike, your guides will give you in-depth information about the native plants you come across. Most of the plants are used as food, medicine, and natural resources for everyday life by the indigenous people.
In addition, the guides will be able to teach you how to identify various animal tracks and spot many different species of wildlife. You will have the advantage of trekking through a region that is largely untouched by tourism, so you will have much more luck seeing monkeys, birds, reptiles, and other native animals.
You will be able to rest back at camp for the afternoon, and then we will prepare for an exciting night of hunting, fishing, and canoeing.

The day will start at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast, and then it will be time to board the canoes and paddle back to José’s house.
We will arrive around lunchtime and eat with José and his wife before preparing for another jungle hike. This time, we will be hiking near José’s house, which allows you to see a completely different ecosystem than the one deep in the heart of the jungle. Your guides will again point out the various trees, plants, and animals that the indigenous people rely on to thrive, and they will be able to answer any questions you might have about the local flora and fauna.
Dinner will again be shared with José and his family, and at night we will visit Lake Parica to search for snakes and other nocturnal creatures.

On day seven, we will wake up at 5:00 a.m. to begin packing up and preparing to return to Maraã. We will eat breakfast and then make the return journey to Maraã, arriving around 10:00 a.m. so that we can take our time saying farewell to Maraã.
By 11:00 a.m. we will be on board a large, comfortable boat to make our return journey from Maraã to Manaus.

The final full day of the tour will be spent on the boat, which means that you can completely relax and enjoy traveling as the natives do. You will be able to walk along the spacious deck to get expansive, breathtaking views of the river and the jungle from the boat.
There will be plenty of comfortable seating as well as televisions and a snack bar for your convenience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served on board the boat, and you will be able to watch the sunset over the water and see the star-studded night sky with no impediments or artificial lights.

This is the final day of the adventure. The boat will arrive in Manaus around 6:00 a.m., and this will mark the end of the journey.
